Future Jobs Fund

Help for young people seeking employment

During 2011 we were contracted by West Sussex County Council to work with young people from West Sussex who took part in the successful Future Jobs Fund programme that enabled them to undertake short term employment. Whilst the programme provided excellent experience for many young people, at the end of their six month placement they needed help to identify the skills they had developed and learn how to search and apply for jobs. Just as importantly, we needed to build on the confidence that they had developed.

During 2011 she advised them about how to make the most of their experience and their new skills. Many of them successfully moved on to new  education, employment or training opportunities. This work was extended into 2012 and is now complete.

We were able to ensure that these young people received 1:1 advice in a way that suited them – face-to-face, by phone or by email. It also ensured that they get consistency of support from the same person. This work was backed up by access to tailored resources that helped clients with job applications, CVs, personal statements and interview skills.

Impact

We supported 126 young people. At the end of our contract 72 per cent were in work, education or training.
